Favourite Cookbooks – What are Yours?

Shoestring Cottage - Frugal Living

cook books 2I am still working my way through the marvellous Ms Monroe’s first cookbook, A Girl Called Jack. I love her recipes!! They are cheap, unfussy, easy to make and use ingredients the average person has in the cupboard. Her second book is on my birthday wishlist.

It annoys me when TV chefs have to make basic recipes unnecessarily fancy. I find this to be the case with Jamie Oliver. He will take something that should be straightforward but shove a load of extra fancy ingredients into the pot that I don’t have and don’t want to buy at great expense.

cookbooksAs well as Jack, my most used recipe book has to be Delia Smith’s Complete Cookery Course. Despite the seemingly sneering attitude of some celebrity chefs towards her, everyone knows her recipes work. And this book really does have a lot of good recipes! I also like Delia’s Frugal Food.
